SEO Settings
Official guide · English · Version 9c253d0cf11816df
The SEO page provides a comprehensive suite of tools for managing search engine optimization across your entire storefront. It includes an overview dashboard, keyword explorer, per-product SEO management with AI generation, and store-level SEO configuration.
Navigate to Storefront > SEO & Settings > SEO to access the SEO tools.
SEO Tabs
The SEO page is organized into four tabs:
| Tab | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Overview | Dashboard with coverage stats, quick actions, and best practices |
| Keywords | Keyword explorer with usage tracking and duplicate detection |
| Product SEO | Per-product SEO status with individual and bulk AI generation |
| Store SEO | Store-level meta data, return-policy structured data, discovery URLs, and SERP preview |
Overview Tab
The Overview tab reports metadata coverage inside DirectSale. It does not report whether Google has indexed or ranked a URL. Use the Search Console page for Google's actual crawl and indexing data.
Stats Cards
Four cards display key metrics:
| Metric | Description |
|---|---|
| Product Metadata Coverage | Percentage of active products with a slug, title, description, keyword targets, and image alt text |
| Incomplete SEO | Number of products missing SEO data, broken down into "Partial" (some fields filled) and "Missing" (no SEO data at all) |
| Keywords | Total number of tracked keywords across all products, pages, and blog posts. Shows a warning if any keywords are overused (used by multiple entities). |
| Categories | Number of active categories with a slug, SEO title, and SEO description |
Additional cards show metadata coverage for published custom pages, published blog posts, and active services.
Quick Actions
Two maintenance actions are available:
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| Resync Keywords | Atomically rebuilds the internal keyword index from active/indexable products, pages, and blog posts. Deleted, draft, inactive, and noIndex entities are excluded. |
| Fix HTML Entities | Cleans up any HTML entity encoding issues (e.g., & instead of &) in product names and category names. Shows how many items were fixed. |
SEO Best Practices
A reference card displays four SEO tips:
| Practice | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Unique Keywords | Each product should target a unique primary keyword to avoid internal competition |
| Product Descriptions | Write unique, descriptive product descriptions of at least 100 words |
| Meta Titles | Keep meta titles under 60 characters and include the primary keyword |
| Meta Descriptions | Write compelling descriptions under 155 characters that encourage clicks |
Keywords Tab
The Keywords tab is a keyword explorer that lets you track and manage all the focus keywords used across your storefront.
Keyword List
The keyword list shows a table with:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Keyword | The keyword text |
| Usage | How many entities (products, pages, blog posts) use this keyword. Keywords used by 2 or more entities are flagged in red as potentially overused. |
| Entities | Icons showing which entity types use the keyword (product, category, page) |
Searching Keywords
Use the search bar at the top to filter keywords by text. The total keyword count is displayed below the search bar.
Keyword Details
Click any keyword row to expand it and see detailed information:
- Overuse warning if the keyword is used by multiple entities
- Entity list showing each product, category, or page that uses the keyword, with their names, slugs, and entity types
Pagination
Keywords are paginated with 30 items per page. Use the Previous/Next buttons at the bottom to navigate between pages.
Info: Shared keywords are an internal targeting signal, not a Google penalty or ranking report. Review pages that have the same search intent; related pages can legitimately share terminology.
Product SEO Tab
The Product SEO tab lets you manage SEO metadata for individual products and generate it in bulk using AI.
Bulk Actions
Two main actions are available at the top:
| Button | Description |
|---|---|
| Generate Missing | Starts an AI batch process to generate SEO data for all products that are missing it (does not overwrite existing SEO data) |
| Regenerate All | Regenerates product metadata after confirmation. Existing public slugs and customer-facing product descriptions are preserved. |
When a bulk generation is running, a progress bar shows the completion percentage with counts of processed, skipped, and failed items.
Filters and Search
| Filter | Options |
|---|---|
| All | Shows all products |
| Missing | Shows only products with incomplete or missing SEO data |
| Complete | Shows only products with complete SEO data |
Use the search bar to find specific products by name.
Product SEO Table
The table displays the following columns:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Product | Product name and category |
| Slug | The URL slug for the product page |
| SEO Title | The meta title for search engines |
| Keywords | The assigned focus keywords (shown as badges) |
| Status | Complete (green), Partial (yellow), or Missing (red) |
| Action | Sparkles button to generate SEO for individual products |
Generating SEO for Individual Products
Find the product
Use filters and search to locate the product you want to optimize.
Click the sparkles icon
In the action column, click the AI sparkles button next to the product.
Wait for generation
The button shows a loading spinner while the AI generates:
- SEO title
- Meta description
- Focus keywords
- URL slug
- Image alt text
Review the results
The table updates automatically with the new SEO data. You can verify the generated content by viewing the product details.
Bulk SEO Generation
Click "Generate Missing" or "Regenerate All"
Choose whether to fill in only products without SEO data or regenerate everything.
Monitor the progress bar
A durable background job is queued, so it can resume processing after an API restart. A progress bar appears showing:
- Total products to process
- Processed count
- Skipped count (products that already have SEO data, when using "Generate Missing")
- Failed count
- Completion percentage
Wait for completion
The process runs in the background. You can navigate away and come back -- the progress is preserved. When complete, a success message shows a summary.
Warning: Bulk SEO generation requires an available platform AI route and sufficient allowance. If requests fail repeatedly, ask support to check the configured Storefront Model and fallback routes; adding a messaging-channel token does not configure storefront generation.
Store SEO Tab
The Store SEO tab manages the top-level SEO for your entire storefront.
SERP Preview
A preview card shows how your store will appear in Google search results:
- Title: Your store's meta title (falls back to the store name)
- URL: Your store's URL
- Description: Your store's meta description
AI Generation
Click Generate Store SEO to create a preview based on the catalog and store information. Review the title and description, then click Save; generation does not publish the preview automatically.
Merchant return policy
Configure the return window, country, return method, fees, refund type, and optional policy URL. The values are validated and emitted as MerchantReturnPolicy structured data only when the policy is enabled and sufficiently configured.
Google discovery and actual index status
The Store SEO tab links to the tenant's public sitemap and Merchant Center feed. Open Storefront > Search Console to connect Google, submit the sitemap, inspect a URL, and view performance. DirectSale intentionally does not send normal product or category URLs to Google's Indexing API because that API is restricted to job-posting and livestream pages.
Info: The Store SEO is separate from the quick SEO settings on the Storefront Overview page. Both edit the same underlying data (store meta title, meta description), so changes made in either location are reflected in both places.
Verify the public product page
After saving SEO fields or publishing a layout, open the actual product URL and check the page title, meta description, canonical URL, one main product heading, image alt text and valid Product/Offer structured data. The price, currency and availability must match the current product. Reviews in structured data must reflect approved published reviews. A custom template should use live product blocks for purchase information rather than hard-coded example values.
Check a representative page for every theme/layout you use on mobile and desktop, including products with variants and without reviews. Lighthouse SEO scores do not prove Google indexing or rich-result eligibility. Use Search Console for indexing and Google's structured-data tools for reported errors. PageSpeed's laboratory metrics are separate from real-user Core Web Vitals; a report with no real-user data cannot establish a field pass.
These shared technical features do not require regenerating product descriptions. A self-hosted website running older application code needs Deploy > Website updates for renderer fixes, then successful publication. See Section Templates and Self-Hosted Storefront.
