AI Content Generation
Official guide · English · Version 9c253d0cf11816df
Description length and insufficient information
AI product descriptions from Generate and SEO + AI, including Generate All, use a main-description range of 800–1500 words. The preview counter excludes HTML tags, SEO metadata and independent FAQ fields. The original generation structure and style remain. Use useful, accurate, verified information; do not add invented product specifications or repetition to meet the minimum. When saved facts are sparse, the draft can add neutral buyer guidance about the identified product category, but it must not present that guidance as a specification of the exact product.
For individual generation, Insufficient information displays follow-up questions only when the product or its basic purpose cannot be identified. Missing optional details such as warranty terms do not reject the whole draft. Add verified details to Quick Product Info and specifications before trying again. Length corrections reuse one reserved generation credit. Failed generation leaves existing product content unchanged and refunds that credit.
Generate All's description report lists each product that could not meet the requirement and its reason, including the specific missing-information questions when available. Insufficient information is reserved for a product whose identity or basic purpose cannot be established; a recognizable product that remains below 800 words or repeats content after correction is reported as Invalid description length. Its previous content stays unchanged and other products continue processing. Stopping the batch prevents further length correction calls. Complete essential missing facts before starting another batch; no tenant approval prompt is added to the batch.
DirectSale includes AI-powered tools that can automatically generate product descriptions, SEO metadata, and professional product images. These tools help you build a complete, polished product catalog quickly.

Choose Generate, SEO + AI or Generate All
| Action | Source and approval | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Generate in a product form | Current form information and uploaded images | Fills editable fields; review and Save the product |
| SEO + AI (Beta) | Saved product information; you review the keyword/URL brief and preview | Save & apply writes the approved saved fields |
| Generate All > AI Descriptions | Saved products in the selected scope | Automatically approves suggested keywords and URLs, generates content and saves each successful result without waiting for tenant approval |
Generate All can change existing product URLs. Review the scope, language and warning before starting. It does not publish draft products. The separate Storefront SEO metadata batch preserves existing public slugs and descriptions; it is not the same action as Products > Generate All.
AI Description Generation
Monthly credits
Generate All descriptions use SEO + AI with automatic keyword and URL approval. The complete workflow uses one text credit per newly generated product preview; keyword and URL suggestions are included. Generating 500 descriptions requires 500 available text credits. Regenerate existing allows overwriting but does not increase your allowance.
Generate All images and Replace BG share one monthly AI image allowance. Each new generated image uses one credit from that same allowance; background previews also use it. Administrators configure it in Plans > Website Settings > Shared AI Images/mo (0 means unlimited). Uploading an existing photo is not AI generation and has a separate upload limit. Failed image generation releases its reserved credit. Monthly resets follow the date shown with your allowance.
Per-Product Generation
When adding or editing a product, the AI Tools section of the form includes a Generate button for description generation.
Upload at Least One Product Image
The AI analyzes your product images to generate the description. At least one image must be uploaded before the Generate button becomes active.
Click Generate
Click the Generate button in the AI Tools section. The AI processes the product images and any information you have already entered (product name, brand, etc.).
Review Generated Content
The AI generates and automatically fills in the following fields:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Product Description | Editable HTML content with structured specifications and relevant sections; a negative-review or weaknesses section is not required |
| SEO Title | An optimized page title for search engines (up to 70 characters) |
| SEO Description | A meta description for search engine results (up to 160 characters) |
| Image Alt Text | Descriptive alt text for the primary product image (up to 255 characters) |
Edit if Needed
All generated content is editable. Review and adjust the output as needed before saving the product.
Info: Providing additional product details (brand name, weight, dimensions) before generating gives the AI more context, resulting in more accurate and detailed descriptions.
Bulk Description Generation
Choose the scope (active products, imported drafts, or both) and the output language before starting. The batch keeps that language; changing panel language does not translate an already queued batch. Review the eligibility preview and skipped counts: missing required inputs, existing output when regeneration is off, scope filters and available monthly credits can exclude products. A zero eligible count means no work is queued.
The coverage bars, such as 500 / 500 descriptions, count products with existing output; they are not remaining monthly credits. The usage labels beside Generate All show consumed credits and the allowance. For example, 100 / 100 text credits used leaves no description generation available, even with Regenerate existing checked. Image credits are separate from text credits. Read tasks beyond the available quota and completed/failed/skipped counts before retrying. A partial batch is not confirmation that every product was updated.
Regenerate existing allows replacing eligible existing AI outputs. It does not bypass missing inputs, plan quotas or failures, and does not publish draft products. Stop ends the batch and removes pending work; already saved results remain. An external AI request already sent may finish, so Stop is not a promise of zero provider cost. Check final completed/failed/skipped counts rather than assuming every visible product was processed.
You can generate descriptions for all products at once from the main Products page.
Open the AI Content Card
On the main Products page, locate the AI Content card below the header. This card displays:
- A progress bar for Descriptions showing how many products already have AI-generated descriptions
- A progress bar for Images showing how many products have AI-generated background images
Configure Generation Options
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Descriptions checkbox | Check to include description generation in the batch |
| Images checkbox | Check to include image background replacement in the batch |
| Regenerate existing | Check to overwrite previously generated content. When unchecked, only products without existing AI content are processed |
Start Generation
Click Generate All to begin batch processing. If image generation is selected and styles have not been configured, an AI Style Dialog opens first (see below).
Filling empty product details during description analysis
When supported by supplied facts, the same analysis can return Brand, Weight (kg), Length/Width/Height (cm) and Product Usage Notes separately from the written description. The backend fills only blank or zero fields and preserves existing merchant values and externally controlled fields. It does not require a separate confirmation dialog.
When several valid weights are documented, the largest is used. Packing dimensions take precedence over product dimensions when both are supplied; values are normalized to kilograms and centimeters. Usage Notes describes supported customer use cases in the selected output language, not invented compatibility. If the facts do not support a field, it can remain empty. Review all filled fields before relying on shipping calculations or recommendations.
For keyword planning and the pilot's distinct Save & apply workflow, see Product SEO + AI Beta.
AI Background Replacement
Background replacement uses AI to remove the background of your product images and replace it with a clean, professional studio background.
Per-Product Background Replacement
In the product form (Add or Edit dialog), the AI Tools section includes a Replace Bg button.
Select the source image and style
In AI Studio Background, select the primary or additional photo to edit. Choose 1-5 offered styles, the background color when relevant and the product size percentage. These are style choices, not a request to edit five photos in one click.
Click Replace BG
Click Replace BG and wait for the selected photo's result. Each newly generated result uses one credit from the shared monthly AI image allowance.
Review and save
Review the gallery result and choose the intended primary image. This edits the form; Save the product to keep the image changes. Do not treat a preview or a consumed credit as proof that the product was saved.
Warning: AI description generation and background replacement are subject to your plan's quota limits. The remaining quota is displayed beneath each tool in the product form.
Bulk Background Replacement
When you trigger bulk generation from the AI Content card on the Products page with the Images checkbox enabled, an AI Style Dialog opens to let you configure the image style before processing begins.
AI Style Dialog
The style dialog contains the following sections:
Style Presets Grid:
- A grid of available style presets (e.g., floating mirror, studio backdrop, gradient, etc.)
- Click a style to toggle it on or off
- You can select between 1 and 5 styles. When multiple styles are selected, the system randomly applies one of the chosen styles to each product
- Selected styles show a purple checkmark badge
- A counter shows how many styles are currently selected
Background Color:
- Only appears when at least one selected style requires a color
- Preset color buttons: Light Gray (#F5F5F5), Gray (#E8E8E8), Warm Gray (#F5F0EB), Dark (#1E293B), White (#FFFFFF)
- A custom color picker for any other color
- The current hex value is displayed
Preview:
- Select a product from the dropdown to preview the style
- Click the Preview button to generate a before/after comparison
- Each generated preview uses one credit from the shared monthly AI image allowance
- The before image shows the original, and the after image shows the result with the selected style and color
Start Generation:
- Click Start Generation to begin processing all products with the configured styles
- The dialog closes and processing begins in the background
Info: Preview, per-product Replace BG and Generate All use the same monthly AI image allowance. A successful generation uses one credit; a failed provider call that produces no usable image releases its reservation.
AI Processing Pipeline
After products are created or imported, they enter the AI processing pipeline:
- Queued -- The product is waiting to be processed
- Processing -- The AI is generating embeddings and analyzing the product
- Ready -- The product is fully processed and available for the AI chatbot to recommend
- Error -- Processing encountered an issue
You can monitor the pipeline status in the Chatbot Readiness card on the main Products page. This card shows:
| Metric | Description |
|---|---|
| Total Products | Total number of products in your catalog |
| Ready | Products fully processed and available to the chatbot |
| Pending | Products waiting to be processed |
| Error | Products where processing failed |
| Embedding Status | How many products have vector embeddings for semantic search |
If you see pending or error products, use the Reprocess Pending button to retry processing.
You can also reprocess specific products by selecting them in the product table and using the Reprocess AI bulk action.
Make AI images the primary product photos
In Products, select the products (or use the select-all checkbox for the displayed list), then choose Use AI image as primary in the bulk toolbar. The action uses each product's saved AI output and creates no new image, so it consumes no AI image credits. The previous primary photo stays in the gallery. The result reports updates and skipped/failed products. Products without a saved AI image, products already using it, full galleries and images controlled by a linked store are skipped; concurrent edits require a retry. Successful changes use the normal website and sales-channel publication flow.
