Product Variants
Official guide · English · Version 9c253d0cf11816df
Product variants let you create different versions of a single product based on attributes like size, color, material, or any other differentiating property. Each variant can have its own SKU, price, cost price, and stock quantity.
Info: Variant management is only available for existing products. You must first create and save a product before you can add variants to it.
Accessing the Variant Manager
- Open the Edit dialog for any existing product (click the pencil icon in the Actions column)
- Scroll to the bottom of the dialog to find the Product Variants card
- Toggle the Enabled/Disabled switch to activate variant management
Defining Variant Attributes
Variant attributes define the dimensions along which your product varies. For example, a t-shirt might have attributes "Size" and "Color".
Add an Attribute
- In the Variant Attributes section, find the dashed-border area at the bottom
- Enter an attribute name in the text field (e.g., "Color", "Size", "Material")
- Once you start typing, a value input field appears below
- Type a value and press Enter to add it (e.g., "Red", "Blue", "Green")
- Each added value appears as a badge. Click the X on any badge to remove that value
- Click Add to save the attribute with its values
Add More Attributes
Repeat the process to add additional attributes. For example:
- Color: Red, Blue, Green
- Size: S, M, L, XL
Info: Attribute names must be unique. The system prevents you from adding an attribute with a name that already exists (case-insensitive check).
Edit Existing Attributes
For each saved attribute:
- Add values -- Use the input field below the existing values. Type a value and press Enter to add it
- Remove values -- Click the X button on any value badge
- Delete the attribute -- Click the trash icon next to the attribute name
Save Attributes
Click Save Attributes to persist your attribute definitions to the server. This saves the attribute names and their possible values but does not yet create individual variants.
Generating Variants
After defining your attributes and saving them, click Generate All Combinations to create variant entries for every possible combination of attribute values.
For example, if you have:
- Color: Red, Blue
- Size: S, M, L
The system generates 6 variants: Red/S, Red/M, Red/L, Blue/S, Blue/M, Blue/L.
Warning: Generating combinations creates new variant records on the server. If you already have variants, the system may create additional ones. Consider clearing existing variants first if you want to start fresh.
Variants Table
Once variants are generated, they appear in a table with the following columns:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Attributes | The combination of attribute values for this variant (e.g., "Red / M") |
| SKU | Editable text field for the Stock Keeping Unit. Each variant can have its own unique SKU |
| Price | Editable number field. Leave empty to inherit the parent product's price. The parent product's price is shown as a placeholder |
| Cost | Editable number field for the cost/purchase price of this variant |
| Stock | Editable number field for the stock quantity of this variant |
| Active | Checkbox to enable or disable the variant. Inactive variants are not shown to customers |
| Delete | Click the trash icon to permanently delete a single variant |
Editing Variants
All fields in the variants table are editable inline. Simply click on a field and type the new value.
When you make changes, a message appears at the bottom: "You have unsaved changes". Click Save All Changes to persist all edits to the server in a single batch operation.
Deleting a Variant
Click the trash icon in the rightmost column of any variant row. The variant is deleted immediately from the server (no confirmation dialog).
