Product Catalog Backup and Metadata Repair

Official guide · English · Version 9c253d0cf11816df

Use the header actions on Dashboard > Products to preserve or repair your catalog. Export Excel creates a spreadsheet for inspection or import mapping. Export Backup creates a product backup ZIP for Restore Backup. These files have different purposes and are not interchangeable.

Export a product backup

  1. Open Products and select Export Backup.
  2. Watch the backup progress and wait for the ready result.
  3. Save the downloaded ZIP securely outside the platform.
  4. Keep the original archive intact. Record the store and date so you can identify it before restoring.

The product archive contains product records, category assignments, variants, units, available product image files and supported search embeddings. Review any image or record warnings; a finished job can have warnings about material that could not be exported. This is a catalog backup, not a backup of customer conversations, orders, mailboxes or the VPS application. It is not encrypted with an email-backup password.

Inspect and restore a product backup

  1. Create a fresh backup of the current destination catalog first.
  2. In Products, select Restore Backup and choose the unmodified product ZIP.
  3. Wait for inspection. Review product, category and image counts, embeddings and the final product count.
  4. Resolve any destination product/storage allowance error before continuing.
  5. Read the replacement confirmation. This Products-page action replaces all current products; cancel if that is not intended.
  6. Confirm once and follow progress through restoration. Review final warnings and failures.
  7. Reload the product list and check sample prices, categories, variants, images and chatbot readiness.

Restoration is not an automatic translation and does not increase your plan allowance. A failed restoration can leave partially restored data; preserve the original backup and error details before retrying. Do not start another restore while the first is still running. Do not rely on this action to restore the storefront theme, shared template library or customer history.

For a connected VPS, verify the subsequent publication in Linked website on VPS before treating the public catalog as updated. Existing published website data is a separate copy; a successful catalog restore alone does not prove delivery to an unreachable VPS.

Repair Metadata

Use Repair Metadata after imports or AI analysis when product attributes contain usable physical details or category information that has not reached the corresponding fields.

  1. Select Repair Metadata. The first check previews findings without applying them.
  2. Review missing field updates, missing category assignments and conflicts.
  3. Read the confirmation carefully: reported field conflicts can be overwritten from extracted attributes.
  4. Confirm only when those extracted values are the intended source.
  5. Review the report and compare a sample product's category, weight and dimensions.

No findings means no changes are needed by this repair. Repair is not a new AI content generation request and does not translate descriptions. Hub-controlled fields cannot be changed by bypassing linked-store ownership. Preserve manually verified measurements before accepting conflicting extracted values.

Choose the right backup tool

What you need to protect Tool
Product catalog and its image files Products > Export Backup / Restore Backup
Supported central account data Settings > Backup & Restore
Persistent website data and private configuration on a VPS Deploy > Website backup & removal
Mailbox messages on a VPS Email Hosting > Encrypted email backups

Use the matching restore workflow. Website version rollback changes the application version while keeping current website data; it is not a catalog restore. See Account Backup & Restore, Self-Hosted Storefront, Self-Hosted Email and Import & Export.
